In 2003 Outkast released Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, a double album that highlighted the differences in the musical styles of the group's two members. Though Big Boi's half of the album, Speakerboxxx, spawned the number-one hit "The Way You Move" and the relatively successful "Ghetto Musick", Benjamin's The Love Below garnered the most attention from mainstream audiences, with the popular singles "Hey Ya!" and "Roses" and their music videos receiving heavy radio and television airtime. "Prototype", the album's fourth single and video (Benjamin's third), was released shortly after. Unlike Speakerboxxx, The Love Below is an exercise in funk, jazz, and alternative music, featuring vocals from Benjamin which are mostly sung instead of rapped. Rolling Stone compared Benjamin to "an indie-rock Little Richard" on "Hey Ya!" and later declared the international hit one of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.[13]
Benjamin was featured alongside Jay-Z on Young Jeezy's track "I Do", released on January 10, 2012. It later appeared on Young Jeezy's fourth studio album Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition. Benjamin's verse, which was initially recorded as a song for his debut solo album, was leaked onto the Internet in 2010. The following month, it was announced that Benjamin would be featured on a song with LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy and the alternative rock virtual band Gorillaz titled "DoYaThing", in order to promote the Gorillaz Converse collection. It was released on February 23, 2012, in two different versions, an approximately 4-and-a-half-minute radio edit and an explicit 13-minute version. The song was written and recorded over three days, with the 13-minute version being recorded on the last one.

In November 2015, Benjamin made a surprise guest appearance on the track "Hello" from Erykah Badu's mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone.[24] In 2016, Benjamin performed background vocals on the track "30 Hours" by Kanye West from his album The Life of Pablo. Earlier that year, Benjamin revealed that he was in the process of recording new music. He also appeared on the song "Solo (Reprise)" by Frank Ocean off his album Blonde. In the song, Andre expresses his disappointment with the direction hip hop has taken in the more than twenty years since he started rapping.[25] Benjamin also appeared on the track "the ends" from Travis Scott's second studio album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight. Also in 2016, he appeared on the song "Kids..." by A Tribe Called Quest from the album We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service and was featured on two tracks from Kid Cudi's album Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin'. He was also featured on the track "Rollinem 7's" on N.E.R.D's 2017 album No One Ever Really Dies.
D12 (also known as "the Dirty Dozen" or "DD-Twizzy" and "the 12 negros") was a Detroit-based hip hop group started by Proof. The group consisted of Eminem, Bizarre, Kuniva, Swift, and Mr. Porter. In 1996, when the group formed, it consisted of Eye-Kyu, Eminem, Bizarre, Proof, Fuzz Scoota, Mr. Porter, Dirty Rat, and B-Flat. Since such members either died, left, or got kicked out, they have had a difficult history, but reached an even more decline in the early-to-mid-2010s after Proof's death in 2006. Fuzz Scoota rejoined the group in 2011 for their mixtape, Return of the Dozen Vol. 2, but left sometime later due to a dispute with Paul Rosenberg, the manager for Eminem. The group has released a song called "Bane", which was included on the Shady Records 15th anniversary compilation, Shady XV. "Bane" did see a one-time return of Mr. Porter to the group. Four years later, in 2018, Eminem confirmed the end of D12 through his album, Kamikaze.
The group formed in 1995 through Proof and Eminem. In 1997, they released their debut mixtape, The Underground EP. In 1996, the members decided that as part of their performance, they would create alter egos with different personalities to make references in their music. Eminem is known as Slim Shady, Eye-Kyu was nicknamed Quick Drawl Magrual, Proof was Derty Harry, Bugz was Robert Beck, Mr. Porter was Kon Artis, Kuniva became Rondell Beene, Bizarre became Peter S. Bizarre, and Swift was Swifty McVay.
On May 21, 1999, Bugz was involved in a dispute with a married couple having a picnic when he sprayed water guns as a joke toward them. This caused the provoked husband to shot Bugz instantly and ram him over with a truck, killing him instantly. At the time, Eminem was enjoying his newfound fame with his solo album, The Slim Shady LP, after signing with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, an imprint distributed by Interscope Records. The album had since garnered a 2000 Grammy win for Best Rap Album and over seven million copies worldwide, as of 2022. Now a successful hip-hop superstar, Eminem was granted his own label by Ted Field and Jimmy Iovine, co-founders of Interscope, which he and his manager/lawyer, Paul Rosenberg, called Shady Records (named after his D12 alter ego). He was suppose to sign Bad Meets Evil, a duo consisting of himself and Royce da 5'9", but unfortunately, the latter had a contractual obligation with Game Recordings and Tommy Boy Records, which became a serious dent in the collaborative relationship between the two rappers and therefore putting Bad Meets Evil on an indefinite hiatus. By any means as a replacement for Bad Meets Evil, Eminem signed D12 instead. He also promised all his fellow group members that whoever solo careers are also successful or gets enough notice in the industry, they shall bring their rapper friend to Eminem or Rosenberg to determine if they can sign them to Shady or not.
For two and a half years, D12's album run had been put on hold, due to their members' solo endeavors, even with Eminem's priorities reaching a high front. He became the first rapper to win an Oscar for Best Original Song; his 8 Mile theme song, "Lose Yourself", while switching more of his focus on other Shady artists like Obie Trice, Stat Quo and commonly 50 Cent. As for his buddy, Proof, he took a break from being Em's hype man to sway more to his solo career, releasing mixtapes throughout 2003.
In 2005, Bizarre and Proof had significant careers on their own with respective solo album, Hannicap Circus and Searching for Jerry Garcia. Swift's solo career wasn't too bright after he signed with Compton hip-hop souvenir The Game's imprint, Black Wall Street, making a part of the underground regime, along with Big Fase 100 (Game's half-brother), A.R., Techniec, Phat Rat, Nu Jerzey Devil, Vita, Juice, Taydoe and Charli Baltimore. This transition began to show that Swift's relationship with D12 was individually dying down. Even worse, due to the fact that Game was having a feud with 50 Cent, Swift was involved with a label by its own boss against his own companion teamed by Eminem. Luckily, Swift had never made any disses toward 50 while on the label and associated with Game, and only managed to release his own solo mixtapes under BWS before he departed in 2010, after a financial dispute with Big Fase 100, whom he accused of embezzling money from its artists, including the Game.
Proof' was Eminems hype man and best friend, and he is responsible for forming D12. Before he had formed Dirty Dozen he was in a group with Eminem called Soul Intent and later Proof and Eminem collaborated with Proof's childhood friend Eye Kyu's group The Infinent Crew. In 1995 Proof discovered an unknown rapper who we would later know as Royce da 5'9. In 2006 Proof passed away in a shooting in a club. Before his death, he released 2 albums and several mixtapes with other collaborations. Proof was also a member of other rap groups such as Promatic, 5 Elemtentz, and Soul Intent. (Deceased)
Mr Porter released a mixtape in 2003 called Po' Folks Mixtape. In 2015 he dropped an EP titled "Stuff In My Backpack". He brought Kuniva into the group as they were in the duo "Da Brigade" together. After his departure from D12, he said "Kon Artis has died" possibly symbolically as Mr. Porter is still a working rapper but his alter ego for D12 is gone.
Before he started gaining recognition for his rhymes, Akeem Ali wrote his first rap to Chris Brown's 2006 single "Poppin'" at the age of 11. From there, Ali committed to rap at 15, and started to put more time in, feeling his love for music made it the right path. In 2015, he dropped his first mixtape, which he describes as Lil Wayne's No Ceilings over old-school beats. The aspiring rhymer eventually removed the tape from the internet, but kept creating and studying acts outside of music he admired, like Jamie Foxx and the Wayans Bros., to sharpen his showmanship. With time came the birth of Keemy Casanova, a fully-formed persona with years of working on music behind it.
