#1: It's a political thriller movie in which a sanctioned black ops agent known only as X, is coerced into going rogue and saving a group of political prisoners in China. #2: There are so many explosions and stunts here that you might be left wondering how all the computer graphics were handled. #3: This is an amazing movie where even if you don't understand what's happening from beginning to end, it will keep your eyes glued to the screen for over 2 hours. #4: Most of the dialogues were in Tamil except for 2 scenes. The dialogues were translated for these scenes through voice over. #5: For the dubbing, real life action star Tony Jaa (New Jack City) was utilized as an action director and he is not credited in the movie itself. The film opened to mixed reviews, with Samy having his lowest critics score at 9/10 on IMDb. Rotten Tomatoes also gave it a 51% rating saying that it "can't transcend its flaws". The film's soundtrack album and background score was composed by Dharan Kumar. The album features two original songs (BGM), four item numbers sung by Vaali, one duet song "Rakkamma" ("I Like to Sing")by P.rupavan and several renditions of BGM. The single track "Kaathothu" is an adaptation of the R. D. Burman's song "Tu Anandi Thagattu" from the movie "1940". It was later remade into English as "You Are My Sandesam" in 1996 for the Tina Turner album titled Tina Live in Concert. The album also features two dubs of the title track, which was by popular Tamil artists. The film score is composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The song "Aakannaen Aakka" was reused by Dharan Kumar for his film "5 Sundarikal". ""Kaathothu"" wrote Paul M. Greene of Film School Rejects as "a subtle, nicely executed reworking of the Hindi song "Tu Anandi Thagattu" sung by Lata Mangeshkar in the original." The film's item numbers were mainly devised and choreographed by Madhuri Kothire who has also worked in Enthiran with Rajinikanth. The song "Kaathothu" written by lyricist Snehan was also remade in Tamil as "Sumangali" in 1995. The film's screenplay, screenplay, direction, writing for the dialogues and the direction of the songs who are credited as "Anirudh Ravichander" are all credited to be by Anirudh Ravichander.
